How many TLDs per domain

When you find a good domain name how many TLDs do you normally regsiter and which ones are not worth the expense?

I've found a good generic domain name comprised of two words centered around a very hot/booming industry and all the TLDs are taken. Should I register .com/.net/.info/.co.uk only?

I'd normally go for:
com
net
org
info
biz
co.uk
eu
ie

The .com , co.uk and .eu would be the ones I give most importance to

If you find a good domain and .com is taken but not other TLDs are registered is this usually a sign that it's trademarked or possibly a niche that someone doesn't realise value of?
Would you register the other collection of TLDs?
