Hi guys,

Looking for a bit of advice here. Back in January I registered two .ie domains for a project I was hopefully going to startup.

Unfortunately it fell through & while I haven't given up on it quite yet, I want to try to make some money off the domains.
Is it possible to rent them ? I believe that the actual domains could be quite lucrative to someone with the money to back them (not me then). They're a sexy subject (not porn) & are quite snappy (not amazon.ie). Although their real estate value wouldn't be anywhere near what their .com equivalents would be, I would still maintain that they could make money for someone...

The question is how do I make them make money for me ?

Anyone any advice on how to make some cash from them ?

hi imax, you can park the domains and they will put ads on it. AdSense has a product that I tried and it worked pretty nicely.

Thanks for the reply Paul. Is that the only way to make anything out of it. would there be a way to rent the domain ?

How good is the domain ? How many type ins a day ?

The are obvious problems with renting a domain, like what happens if you suddenly want it back and the renter has spend lots of money building up a business around that domain. Renting domains don't really work IMHO.

I've never checked the logs. To be honest I've never done anything other than put a holding page up there.

It's jusy that the domain is kinda catchy. it's in use very successfully arounf the world in .com/.net/.org/.co.uk etc extremely successfully & if any of these organisations wanted to come here, they wouldn't be able to obtain the same domain (because I have it).

I was going to model a business venture on one of these existing models, but unfortunately due to lack of funds had to shelve it.

For this reason I'm reluctant to simply give up the domain (although I believe if I was offered the right price I might sell), which is why I was thinking of a long term rental agreement.

Yes GB76 they look like that, you can target the ads a little with a few keywords, but that's about it. You need to change you DNS settings to do it, like forwarding the domain to another service.

The only +'ve is for aging the domain a little, it's not as if you are going to receive links to it if it's a parked page.

Imax :Feel free to PM me with details of the domain.

Hello.

Thank you for sharing.

The IEDR forbid you from selling the domains, not sure about renting them.

If they are good generic names, that could get some type in traffic, you could use one of the domain parking service like sedo.com to generate some income.

It won't make you a fortune, but it could generate some money while you are waiting to develop the domains.

e.g. if you owned a domain like cars.ie you would get people who assume there is a website at cars.ie typing it into their browser address bar.
