Reasons for registering a .ie domain name

If I recall correctly there used to be loads of articles floating about the web (blogs. etc) detailing why it was important for Irish businesses to register .ie domain names for their business website, especially if their target market is in Ireland. I had a client recently question this and apart from what I could tell them, it would be great if I could get my hands on some online literature to back it up.

When I try some obvious google searches, all I find are domain registrars and no articles.

I can't think of any offhand..

The obvious reasons for registering a .ie domain would be:
- it's Irish and people are probably going to try brand.ie instead of brand.com
- more choice - as there are fewer .ie domain names registered you can probably find a better and more memorable one
- if you're targetting the Irish market .ie is the obvious choice
