Wordpress subscribe to comments feature

How is this feature enabled?

When users on my blog post a comment I would like them to be automatically informed of any replies. I thought that by making each person who posts on the blog a subscriber would enable this feature but it doesn't work on my blog for some reason.

Depending on the plugin you are using it's usually an option in the plugin settings to turn it on by default
