I heard about twitter a while ago but never really tried it. I create an account yesterday for my company ( Blueface_voip )

I was wondering: if you are updating regulary your twitter and manage to get a decent amount of 'followers'; do you get any return on this tool (in term or visitors, new customers or prospects, or as a good customer service) ?
All links are nofollow so their is obviously no direct return for SEO in itself.

I've seen many start ups have their twitter account and are using that to provide news about their services or the company in general but also for technical support ...

Thanks in advance for your input.

In terms of pure SEO, there is little benefit in Twitter, precisely because of the nofollow links. Indeed, it could be argued that linking via Tweets is counter productive in that any link in a Tweet that is of interest is likely to be retweeted, another nofollow link. However, as a tool for communicating with an interested audience, it could prove very valuable, especially in an industry where there is constant change. So whereas it won't help in terms of Page Rank, well worded Tweets linking to well written content can both drive traffic to the site, and enhance the site's overall reputation in that field.

That's what I think too.
I'll have a better idea on this in a few days.

I would second Alhazred De Sane's response there. I am using Twitter for the past couple of months and my feelings are that if you send good quality messages over time and build followers that it will eventually drive traffic to your site.

However interaction is important as well as the purpose of the Twitter isn't to say <Here is my great site go visit http://bolggyboy....> as people will get fed up pretty fast and unfollow you (at least I do anyway!!).

Bottom line it is a 2 way street. I (again personally) think you need to have over a 1000 followers to get any degree of traffic generated as it is when a good message gets retweeted that you have the exponential affect of driving traffic and possibly more followers.

Bottom line: It takes time and effort to build followers ignore any ot the viral methods they suck like smelly socks.

Oh and follow me on @kdaly100 for incisive, clever messages !!! LOL:)

You need to adjust your twitter settings as your updates are almost invisible to anyone visiting your Twitter page.

I don't think I've changed anything to hide comments. I was wondering why they disappeared myself, I thought it twitter being funny because it's lagging a lot for me at the moment.

Ooops nevermind, I was playing with the colors and made the text impossible to read :D

After a few days of use, I have to admit I'm impressed.
That allows getting in contact with so many people in your field: suppliers, users/customers, bloggers ...

I've even done some technical support on twitter :)

I guess that if I take the time to built a decent list of followers, that can allow reaching a lot of people and hence bring some new potential customers.

We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the pieces of advise !
