I'm in two minds about registering .eu names or even suggesting them to clients. If they want generic type domains like shop.eu thats one thing, but is it worth it for company names - not sure....

think i wait and see on this

You might look at it from that point of view, but on the other hand, is it not just another domain name, i mean if you think about it, the most frequent and commonly used domain names at the moment, are the .com, .net, .org, .co.uk and .ie. My argument would be is there really a necessity to have the .eu? When people are potential taking a guess at what a companies address is, i think in most cases a lot of them wouldn't even consider the .eu. So in one aspect, i think it's a waste of time, but on the other hand with regards to maintaining the brand security of it, i think it's worth it. Although, it is quite a stringent process about getting, similar to haveing to register a .ie, so i don't think that you will get many cyber-squatters on the domains.

No it isn't.

Just about anybody can register a .eu domain and there is a silly amount of cybersquatting already

As far as I was aware, in order to successfully register a .eu, you needed proof of a registered business, trade name, or something a long those lines. You also need to prove that you reside in the european market.

Err no.
You just need an EU address.

You may be getting confused with the sunrise requirements...

Yip, you're right, I was talking about the sunrise requirements. Well if what you say is correct and that anyone can register a .eu, then i guess from a domain security stand point, I would suggest registering it, but whether i think having a .eu domain is all that important, i personally think they are a waste of time.

I was thinking about buying a .eu but i decided against it, so that makes my grand tally of eu domains a whopping 0, and it looks like it's going to stay that way.

I suppose I could just fill you with incorrect information ......

*evil laugh*

Hahaha so now I know never to believe a word you ever say again.

Do .eu names ever rank? I dont think I have noticed, not that I hunted for them on the serps.

I wouldn't see the point at the moment. Possibly if you were doing some sort of compaign, petition etc. in the EU or it was internationally relevant but other than that it's just another .mobi,.info,.biz.
I think that a URL is more effective as BUSINESSNAMESOLUTIONS.com as opposed to BUSINESSNAME.eu if you get what I mean.
I don't think .eu is embedded in people's minds enough.
