Re-Introduction

Hi lads and ladies,
How're things? I've just registered and would like to introduce myself. My name is Dan. I hail from Kildare, but have been living in Limerick for well over two years now. I've just recently contributed to the world wide web in the form of a personal site. If anyone is interested in throwing a critical eye over it, I'd be interested to hear any and all responses to it.

I'm experiencing a perpetual growing interest in digital painting and concept art as a whole, although my skills are lagging behind my interest! I will persevere!

Here's the link, hope to hear from you soon...

Nice Design work, but the site is all Flash meaning it won't be search engine friendly. If that's not an issue for you then I guess it doesn't matter, but if you are looking into online design you should consider spending some time learning XHTML and CSS.

Howdy Folks,
I'm from Welcome to Tax123.ie - Ireland's On-line Tax Refund Specialists | Tax123.ie and come here with questions and dreams of answers.

Already been reading the forum on and off for a while: familiar and impressed with it and the websites of members, so I'm delighted to get acquainted.

Now what's that trackback thing on the bottom of my screen ....

Track backs are generally used to reference another post. Its a good way of reading about how others have responded to a post or blog / topic.

Lets say I write a post about how great Tax is :).

You may then write a post on your own site in response saying how much you loathe tax, but you put a track back link in to my post. You say this is what I saw on your blog, and this is what I have to say about it.

Does that help?

Hi from Donabate, Co. Dublin

My name is Keith, I'm originally from Cork but have been in Dublin for last 8 years. I developed an interest in Internet Marketing 4 years ago...which has led to setting up my own web design company last year. I have particular interest in SEO and Content Management Systems. Hoping to share and learn a lot here.

Hi

Hi everyone,

I've been visiting this site a lot recently and its a great resource for advice and suggstions for all things web related in Ireland.

gotta a little 3d company that makes 3Dimages, 3D Animated Ads (our first one on the tellybox next week hopefully) websites, branding etc Big Bad Wolf - 3d Visualization - 3d models - Communication (web design, corporate presentations, graphic design, branding) - Illustration - Animation
and now and again i make pictures and sell them Patrick Mc Ginty
this site is under construction so excuse the mess

apart from that we keep abreast of all things 3D, Art, Architecture, Motion Graphics and recently we have started looking at realtime 3D for visualisation.

We have just start a blog using expression engine for the 3D community - 3Deurope.net | THE BEST IN 3D | Architectural Visualization | Urban 3D | Landscape 3D | Product Visualization | Simulation | Medical 3D | Game | SFX - its in its early stages

If anyone has any advice on our websites, content, format etc etc we are all ears

Am here to learn as much as possible about web development and SEO and hopefully offer some advice on design.

A funny thing seems to have happen...

Black knight,

I imagine you'd be one to ask about this, I posted the following on the marketplace page last night and this morning it's not there, how come?

Did I break some rule (the only rule there is no spamming and I'm pretty sure this counts as a suitably marketplace orientated enquiry)?

"Hi All,

I'm currently working as an intern for Circa magazine
(CIRCA Art Magazine - Home page) as the epilogue to the Web Design course I took part
in with FAS. I had gone there with the intention of redesigning the
site but it seems the editor is more keen for me to look into
functionality and scripting (inter linking between related articles,
internal search engine, top most viewed, etc.).

I am currently spending my day idly clicking through the circa archive
with an expression not unlike that of the proverbial dog shown the
proverbial card trick.

My thinking is that the best option for tackling this would be to
apply for a one off grant to the arts council to pay for me full time
(not a vast amount) and web expert part-time, to work on this project
over three months or so (that a rough guess we're talking a few
thousand articles here which will all need reformating), with me doing
the vast amount of leg work and the expert coming in once a week or so
(more so at first less so the more I learn) to set me on the right
track, oversee what I'm doing, give advice, point out mistakes, whack
a ruler over my knuckles etc.

o from those who know, what I want to ask is...

1. How viable is this?

2. How much could this end up costing?

3. Is there any company/person in particular I should go to, perhaps
one which would have a vested interest in the arts?

My website (which will be getting a severe redesign of it's own quite
soon) is index if you're interested.

Thanks for Reading.

Seanan Kerr"

I'm a relative newbie here too, so Welcome. Your questions seem a bit too precise for anybody who is not more closely involved with your project to be able to answer, it seems to me. Questions in relation to budgets, in particular, are not usually discussed in such a public forum, though protocol seems to be gradually changing on the Internet. I really like "Circa" magazine and usually read excerpts when I visit this place: Illusion on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Best of luck with your new venture.

Thanks for replying

Yes you're probably correct, it is a bit too much to expect to be answered in a snappy one off reply. It's just I've been trying to get my head around how to approach the redesign and it's giving me a headache. If I was building the site from scratch it wouldn't be a problem, but with this... if I even knew where to make the first incision it'd be a starting place.

Then again... I suppose it's easier to get a girl pregnant than to be a surgeon.

Then again... it also depends on the girl!

Redesigning, as you point out, is a bit of a nightmare. This might be of use as it refers to the challenges video has brought to Web Design in general: The Economist gears up for website redesign - editorsweblog Easy access for readers and looking for ways to attract new readers might help you focus. Have you any good links to photography sites, BTW? I got interested in Blogging and Photography at the same time and look for new ideas daily.
